Participants will be recertified to lead the course using a video driven format and instructional manual.
Participants learn what drives anger and aggression, the Five Principles of SAMA, The Assisting Process, which is a logical, sequential format that leads the person in crisis from the reactive part of the brain to the reasoning part of the brain.
Program Two focuses on skills for mutual protection of oneself and others from aggressive act like strikes, kicks, pushes, wrist grasps, life threatening acts like chokes, hair pulls, bites and how to protect oneself on the ground.
Program Three Containment and Object Retrieval teaches skills for physically holding someone if they are actively trying to harm themselves or others and there is no less restrictive alternative available. The techniques avoid pressure points and joint locks and are based on the Five Principles of SAMA and body mechanics rather than muscular force. The program also teaches skills for retrieving objects when a person is threatening to do harm or actively doing harm to oneself or others.
The Assisting Process is incorporated into the skills.
